Children’s Hope (CHY 15032) is a registered charity founded by Alison McNamara in 1999. We work with children from disadvantaged backgrounds providing direct support, intervention and educational programs – in new, effective ways – using the internet and video technology. Since its foundation Children’s Hope has assisted nearly 20,000 children in 19 countries.
Children’s Hope provide projects for children from the age of 7 years to 18 years old. All projects are delivered through the Schools, Youth & Community Leaders and Outreach Agencies - in partnership with professionals and organisations best recognised for their expertise in each field. After school groups in disadvantaged areas are vital for children. Our projects allow children of all abilities learn through fun. The variety of subjects allow children to discover their talent giving them confidence, experience and new skills, encourage them to stay in school and pursue their dreams.
Our groups have had great success including winning in Primary of the BT Young Scientist of the year 2008 and won 1st prize in the Youth Section of the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Community Awards.
So far, Children’s Hope has been funded by local and national Government, educational agencies and fundraising. This has made our work possible, but the charity is 12 years old now and we are looking towards the future. We are tremendously grateful to all our supporters, patrons and board members for their funding and donation of time, resources and venues.
1. Funding for the Prince’s Trust Clubs
Children’s Hope secured the first Prince’s Trust programme south of the border: the xl club, a programme to help young people at risk of exclusion, or underachieving at school. We have been running the first club since September 2010 and our Dun Laoghaire and Sallynoggin tutors and teenagers are getting on great!
Urgently, we must now get grant aid of €15,000 by August 2011 in order to secure the license fee for 2 more XL Clubs and to secure the rights to the XL Club in the future.
If you, or your club or company are in a position to help us, we would be much obliged to have the opportunity to continue to help children in disadvantaged areas.
2. Funding for LIVE workshops
Later this year, we want to conduct LIVE workshops for Community and Youth Leaders, Teachers and others working in this sector, offering a free resource of initiatives, training and materials for workshops with children. We need to get funding to make this happen. Please get in touch if you would like to volunteer to fundraise on our behalf.
The primary goal is to eventually own a Children’s Hope Centre, a central headquarters for Children’s Hope projects and activities. The Centre would hold the internet television studio, as well as science labs, a music studio, engineering, cookery and computer facilities plus an outdoor area for recreation.
A secondary objective would be to have Children’s Hope buses for transporting children and leaders to and from field trips and project locations.
